Experts continue to analyze the situation, noting that the lack of materials forces Ukraine to rationalize the use of ammunition.
According to the American Institute for the Study of War (ISW), from the beginning of this year to April 1, the aggressor Russia captured approximately 305 km² of the territory of Ukraine. At the same time, there are statements from Moscow about the occupation of most of the country.
"ISW observed only visual evidence to confirm that Russian forces captured approximately 305 square kilometers between January 1 and April 1, 2024," the report said.
Experts point out that the Minister of Defense of the Russian Federation Serhiy Shoigu said during a conference call with the Russian military leadership that from the beginning of 2024, their troops captured 403 km² of the territory of Ukraine. However, American analysts do not confirm this figure.
The ISW notes that the lack of material resources forces Ukraine to rationalize the use of ammunition and direct it to critical areas of the front. However, there is a threat of a Russian breakthrough in other, less secure sectors, and the general instability of the front line.
"Limiting Ukraine's material resources also gives Russian forces flexibility in how they conduct offensive operations, which can lead to joint and non-linear opportunities for Russian forces to achieve significant success in the future," ISW experts emphasize.
