The 72nd Separate Mechanized Brigade of the Black Zaporozhians, defending Vugledar in Donetsk Oblast, has denied reports that it has withdrawn from the city. A corresponding video message was posted on the brigade's official Facebook page.
Military statement
In the video, a brigade soldier assured that Ukrainian defenders continue to hold their ground, despite intense assaults by the Russian occupiers. During his speech, loud explosions can be heard in the background, which emphasizes the tense situation in the region. “We want to dispel all doubts and the opinion of pseudo-experts that the 72nd brigade has left the city of Vugledar. Currently, despite heavy assaults and difficult circumstances, we are in place. Today is 09/26/2024. Glory to Ukraine!” – the soldier emphasized.
Analysts from the Institute for the Study of War (ISW) note that Russian troops have been actively advancing in the Kreminna, Toretsk, and Pokrovsk areas in the past day, and have also tried to advance within Vugledar. At the same time, the Armed Forces of Ukraine are repelling attacks by the occupiers in Vovchansk.
The military explained that the decision on the possible withdrawal of the Armed Forces of Ukraine from Vugledar will depend on the condition of the city. The Chairman of the Council of Reservists of the Land Forces noted that if the city is destroyed and there is no possibility of organizing a high-quality defense, then the troops may be withdrawn. "If there is a threat to the life and integrity of the military, then most likely they will be withdrawn," he emphasized.
