Information about the property status and income of the Ambassador of Ukraine to the United Kingdom, former Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces Valeriy Zaluzhny is closed to public access. This was confirmed by the National Agency for the Prevention of Corruption (NAPC) and the Ukrainian Embassy in London in response to a journalist's request.
The Glavkom publication asked Zaluzhny to provide data on his income and assets for 2024. The request concerned real estate, movable property, securities, corporate rights, financial obligations, and other elements of the declaration. However, the ambassador forwarded the request to the NACP.
The embassy explained that they did not possess such information, as it was “not created, received, or documented” within the powers of the diplomatic institution. Counselor-envoy Eduard Fesko also referred the journalists to the anti-corruption agency.
The NACP itself referred to amendments to the legislation adopted in September 2023. Since then, declarations of military personnel who were or remain involved in hostilities have not been published.
According to the agency, the publication of such data could pose a threat not only to the declarants themselves, but also to their families. This, according to the NACP, could also create risks to national security, as well as complicate the prevention of defense crimes.
Thus, the agency concluded that “the harm from disclosing such information outweighs the public interest in obtaining it,” and therefore it is restricted in access.
This means that the public will not currently be able to find out exactly what salary Zaluzhny receives as an ambassador, as well as what assets he owns.
