In Dnipro, law enforcement officers have detained an 18-year-old man suspected of committing the murder of linguist Iryna Farion in Lviv. This was announced by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, noting that the detention operation was very difficult.
"The Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, Ihor Klymenko, has just reported to me about the detention in Dnipro of a suspect in the murder of Iryna Farion. During these days, hundreds of specialists from the National Police of Ukraine, the Security Service of Ukraine, and other services have been working on solving the murder. I am grateful to everyone who added more facts to the picture of the crime every day and brought the full truth closer to being established," the president wrote.
According to Zelensky, the detention operation was complex and required significant efforts from law enforcement officers. Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko reported on the work carried out, emphasizing the importance of coordinated interaction between various services. The necessary investigative actions and examinations are currently underway, and the Interior Minister is obliged to present all the details of the case to the public.
Death of Irina Farion
On July 19, Iryna Farion, a former MP and renowned linguist, died in hospital after an assassination attempt. She was shot in the head by an unknown assailant on Masaryk Street in Lviv. Doctors tried to save her life, but Farion's condition remained critical.
The assassination attempt on Iryna Farion occurred on the evening of July 19. Neighbors said that they had seen a young man on Masaryk Street for a week who could have been involved in the crime. The description of the killer provided by the neighbors helped law enforcement officers in the investigation.
According to Iryna Farion's daughter, Sofia Semchyshyn, her mother planned to relax with her family at sea. On the last day of her life, Farion was picking up her grandson Dmytro from kindergarten and preparing for the trip.
Farewell to Irina Farion
On July 22, a farewell ceremony was held in Lviv for Iryna Farion. The funeral ceremony began with a farewell memorial service in the garrison church of the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul. The ceremony was attended by relatives, friends, colleagues, military personnel and caring Lviv residents. Among them were Farion's party members, including the leader of the All-Ukrainian Union "Svoboda" Oleh Tyahnybok and other former deputies.
