A draft law has been developed in Ukraine that will lower the draft age to 18. The document is ready and awaiting approval, the online publication "Poltavshchyna" reports, citing Serhiy Lunich, a representative of the 17th Poltava Brigade.
He said that the brigade is preparing to accept a large number of new recruits soon, mostly boys around 20 years old.
"Serhiy Lunich reluctantly admitted that the draft law on lowering the conscription age from 25 to 18 is already on the table in the Verkhovna Rada and is awaiting approval, and higher-level mobilization bodies have instructed military units in advance to prepare for the arrival of recruits so that they can begin combat training without wasting time," the publication writes.
For their part, the deputies deny the information that the Rada has already prepared a bill to lower the mobilization age, as reported by a Poltava publication with reference to the representative of the 17th Poltava Brigade, Serhiy Lunich.
"There have been and are no bills to lower the mobilization age from 25 to 18 years old, neither in the Verkhovna Rada, nor in our specialized Committee on National Security, Defense, and Intelligence in particular," says the head of the committee, Zavitnevych.
People's Deputies Venislavskyi (Servant of the People, member of the Defense Committee) and Honcharenko (Eurosolidarity) also publish refutations.
The 17th Brigade has already stated that Lunich is not a member of the brigade's command (neither commander nor deputy) and is not an authorized person to comment on draft laws or amendments to them.
At the same time, the initial publication did not mention that this draft law had already been introduced or was being worked on by deputies. It was reported that it was “on the table.” Probably with the leadership of the Verkhovna Rada.
