The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has decided to temporarily ban the export of unprocessed wood and firewood until December 31, 2025. The purpose of this step is to provide the domestic market with raw materials, support Ukrainian woodworking enterprises, and reduce the environmental burden in the pre-winter period.
This was announced by Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko, noting that the decision has social and economic significance:
"This is a necessary step to take care of people in the winter, keep our enterprises operating, and reduce the burden on the environment."
According to the resolution, the government has added unprocessed wood (except pine) to the list of goods whose export is subject to licensing and has set a zero quota for their export until the end of 2025. The restrictions cover:
-
unprocessed timber, with or without bark or sapwood removed;
-
timber, roughly squared or unsquared, except pine.
The resolution enters into force on the date of official publication and applies only to new agreements and transactions concluded after that.
Deputy Economy Minister Yegor Perelygin explained that the restrictions will help balance the domestic market and stabilize the woodworking industry, especially in the face of increased demand for fuel and wood in the winter. In addition, the ban is important for ensuring the country's defense needs.
A temporary ban on the export of unprocessed wood and firewood will reduce the shortage of raw materials, support the national producer, and contribute to Ukraine's energy security in times of war and economic challenges.
