The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has approved a draft law that provides for significant improvements in social protection for conscripts, their families, and several other categories of military personnel. This was announced by Taras Melnychuk, the government's representative in the Verkhovna Rada, on his Telegram channel.
The draft law covers the following categories of military personnel: servicemen of basic military service (a new category), conscripts who remain on duty in cases of captivity, treatment, or disappearance, as well as those who are in disciplinary units or guardhouses. In addition, family members of these servicemen and families of killed or deceased servicemen are also protected.
The bill provides for a basic package of social guarantees, including the right to vacation, pensions, unemployment benefits, and state insurance. Special attention is paid to military personnel released from captivity - they will be granted vacation even outside martial law.
In addition, the law introduces a 6-day work week with one day off for cadets of higher military educational institutions, students of military training units, and students of professional pre-university military education.
In Ukraine, various benefits have previously been in effect for mobilized, contract servicemen, and their families. In particular, these include medical examinations and treatment, payment of utility services, preferential travel, and other social guarantees. Additional payments are provided for contract servicemen, which will now be supplemented by new social guarantees.
