In Kyiv, law enforcement officers uncovered a mobilization evasion scheme in which men were recruited for fictitious positions as research assistants at a state university for money.
According to the investigation, the scheme was organized by two businessmen and an official from one of the capital's universities. They offered clients positions as scientists who were part of a team that was supposedly working on a project to create unmanned aerial vehicles.
The cost of such "services" ranged from $1,500 to $4,000. After being appointed to the position, men received grounds for deferment from mobilization.
Among those who were registered as scientists were people of various professions who had nothing to do with scientific activity. In particular, an agronomist, a dentist, a service station worker, and others.
According to law enforcement officials, in just six months, the organizers of the scheme managed to register at least 14 such "scientists.".
All those involved in organizing the illegal scheme have now been detained. Law enforcement officers are identifying other possible participants and the circumstances of the transaction.
