Vinnytsia court sentences Russian State Duma deputy to 15 years in prison

The Vinnytsia City Court of Vinnytsia Oblast sentenced a citizen of the Russian Federation, who was found guilty of encroaching on the territorial integrity and inviolability of Ukraine, to 15 years in prison with full confiscation of property in favor of the state.

As the investigation established, the convicted person, as a current deputy of the State Duma of the Russian Federation, voted for the ratification of the so-called “treaties on friendship, cooperation and mutual assistance” between Russia and the illegal armed formations of the “DPR” and “LPR”. These actions violated the norms of international law and Ukrainian legislation.

The adoption of such decisions in the State Duma became the basis for further escalation of armed aggression against Ukraine. They were used by Russian propaganda in attempts to legitimize the war in the eyes of its own population and the international community.

The Russian aggression led to significant losses: the death of civilians, including children, numerous injuries, and the destruction of buildings, infrastructure, and private property.

The verdict has not yet entered into legal force.
