Odessa police have filed an indictment against three men, ages 23, 24, and 34, who demanded $20,000 from their 32-year-old roommate, allegedly for a debt. Law enforcement officers documented their illegal activities and seized evidence.
According to the investigation, the attackers were looking for "easy money" and threatened the victim with serious bodily harm through messengers. Then they arranged a meeting at a restaurant in the Kyivsky district of Odessa, where they demanded to pay part of the debt - 8 thousand dollars. The man gave them only 1.5 thousand.
At the end of March, law enforcement officers documented the crime, seized money, mobile phones, and other evidence. The perpetrators were detained, and the court chose for them a preventive measure in the form of night house arrest.
The defendants were charged under Part 4 of Article 189 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine - extortion of another's property with the threat of violence, committed by a group of persons, under martial law.
If the court finds the men guilty, they face up to 12 years in prison with confiscation of property.
