Odessa customs official detained while receiving illegal benefit

A customs official in the Odessa region was exposed for demanding bribes from representatives of two companies, the Prosecutor General's Office reported.

According to the investigation, the woman, using her official position, demanded and received over 270 thousand hryvnias from a representative of the enterprises. In return, she promised not to take measures that could lead to the maximum fines for violating customs legislation.

The official was detained while receiving an illegal benefit. She was informed of suspicion under Part 3 of Article 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine - receiving a bribe combined with extortion.

The court chose a preventive measure for the suspect in the form of detention with the possibility of posting bail in the amount of 787 thousand hryvnias.

The pre-trial investigation is being conducted by the Main Investigation Department of the State Bureau of Investigation with operational support from the SBU Department in the Odessa region.
