The World Health Organization (WHO) has confirmed new cases of the Oropush virus, a serious public health threat. The disease has been reported in Ecuador, Guyana, Panama and the Cayman Islands. In addition, imported cases of the virus have been detected in Canada, the United States and European countries, which is causing concern among health organizations.
"Based on available information, WHO assesses the overall public health risk posed by this virus as high at the regional level. 30 cases have been reported in Europe," the statement said.
The disease is known to be transmitted through mosquito bites. The WHO fears that the virus could spread in other ways if it is not brought under control.
In addition, 15 infant deaths in Brazil, five spontaneous abortions and three cases of congenital anomalies are currently under investigation. Also in September, Cuba confirmed a case of congenital anomaly, and two more cases are under investigation.
Meanwhile, three imported cases of Oropushku have been identified in Germany, 21 in Spain, and six in Italy. In particular, 20 of these cases are linked to travel to Cuba and one to Brazil.
