Former Defense Ministry official under suspicion over UAH 340 million in losses

SBI employees reported the suspicion to the former acting head of one of the departments of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, who was responsible for procurement and resource provision.

According to the investigation, in the summer of 2023, the official committed gross violations during the procurement of fuel and lubricants for the needs of the army. In particular, value-added tax was illegally included in the cost of contracts.

Under 19 state contracts worth over UAH 2 billion, the army purchased lubricants, oil, and distillers for special-purpose equipment. As a result, the state suffered losses of over UAH 340 million.

The former official was reported on suspicion under Part 4 of Article 425 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine - negligent attitude towards military service. The sanction of the article provides for a penalty of up to 8 years of imprisonment.

A petition will be filed with the court to impose a preventive measure in the form of night house arrest on the suspect. At the same time, it is known that he has already compensated about UAH 330 million of the damages caused.

Procedural management is carried out by the Prosecutor General's Office.
