The State Bureau of Investigation has detained a sitting deputy of the Zhytomyr Regional Council for attempted fraudulent appropriation of funds. As it turned out, the official demanded $10,000 in exchange for a promise to “place” a citizen for a competitive position in a state body.
According to the investigation, in March 2025, the deputy approached a man who was looking for a job and offered his “services.” In the conversations, he assured that he had influential acquaintances in government structures and could “negotiate” a positive selection result. The cost of “influence” was ten thousand dollars.
The transfer of the entire agreed amount took place in Kyiv on April 3. SBI employees detained the official “red-handed” immediately after receiving the funds.
At this time, the court has chosen a preventive measure - night house arrest. At the same time, a pre-trial investigation is underway. SBI investigators are checking information about the possible participation of other individuals in the scheme, in particular representatives of state bodies and law enforcement agencies.
If found guilty, the deputy faces up to 8 years in prison with confiscation of property.
