A neurologist who was caught systematically accepting bribes from patients will be on trial in Zhytomyr, the State Bureau of Investigation reported.
The investigation established that since March 2025, the doctor had been charging money for speeding up the disability registration procedure. The amount of the "fee" depended on the age, gender, and medical indications of the patients and reached $600.
Despite the fact that most people actually had diagnoses that allowed them to receive the appropriate group, the doctor demanded a bribe for expedited paperwork.
The criminal activity was exposed in July of this year, when the defendants reported suspicion in another criminal proceeding. It concerns assistance in the production of fictitious medical documents for men of draft age, as well as abuse of official position.
Several affected patients contacted law enforcement and testified against the doctor. She is currently removed from participating in commissions that assign disability groups.
The woman is charged with Part 3 of Article 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine - obtaining unlawful benefit by prior conspiracy by a group of persons. The sanction of the article provides for up to 10 years of imprisonment.
In addition, the case involves a nurse from the same institution who passed bribes to doctors from patients. She is accused of aiding and abetting under Part 5 of Article 27, Part 1 of Article 369 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
