Russian occupation troops are advancing towards Pokrovsk in Donetsk region, which poses a real threat to the front on the border with Dnipropetrovsk region. According to military expert Oleg Zhdanov, if Pokrovsk is lost, the region may find itself faced with the need to contain the aggressor's offensive on new lines, which, unfortunately, are not yet ready.
The expert stressed the importance of urgently building fortifications and defensive lines in the Dnipropetrovsk region. In his opinion, preparatory measures should have begun long before the current situation. Zhdanov noted:
"Let's see what the Dnipropetrovsk Regional Military Administration has done today to reach a critical point where it must be responsible for whether the region is ready for defense.".
The capture of Pokrovsk is a key objective for Russian troops. Without it, an offensive on the Dnipropetrovsk region is unlikely, but the enemy has concentrated significant forces in this direction.
Fighting in this direction remains extremely fierce. As stated by the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Oleksandr Syrsky, the enemy has an advantage in manpower, but the Ukrainian defenders are demonstrating resilience and inflicting significant losses on the enemy.
According to experts, the Russians are betting on capturing the city, which could open the way to further escalation.
In the event of the loss of Pokrovskaya, Ukraine may find itself faced with the need to quickly transfer reserves to new defense lines. At the same time, fortification work in the Dnipropetrovsk region should become a priority. Delays in preparation could be costly, as the aggressor continues to concentrate forces for an offensive.
