Former SBU employee and advisor to the President's Office Artem Shylo, a defendant in the case of embezzlement of funds from Ukrzaliznytsia, is preparing for mobilization. However, sources claim that this is not a matter of a sincere desire to defend Ukraine, but an attempt to avoid a court sentence.
The NABU is investigating Shylo: in 2021–2022, he allegedly participated in corruption schemes to inflate prices during procurement for Ukrzaliznytsia. The losses to the state are estimated at millions. The proceedings are already in the final stage, but Shylo seems to have decided to hide not in the courtroom, but behind an army badge.
According to the Absolution , Shylo is trying to enlist in the National Guard of Ukraine, specifically in the “Charter” unit, which was created by Kharkiv agrarian Vsevolod Kozhemyako. He is interested in “comfortable” conditions: without front lines, combat operations, or assaults.
In fact, this is a classic “escape in military uniform” scheme. Former head of the State Fiscal Service Roman Nasirov already tried to use a similar tactic to suspend the trial — the trick didn’t work then.
In the case of Shil, the consequences could be more serious. If he is given military status, the process could be suspended or delayed for years. This sets a dangerous precedent: on the one hand, abuse of mobilization mechanisms, on the other, blocking justice.
