The documentary “20 Days in Mariupol” has been nominated for two BAFTA awards: Best Documentary and Best Foreign Language Film. Director Mstislav Chernov, a war correspondent, remained in besieged Mariupol with his colleague Yevhen Maloletka in March 2022.
The film covers the events in Mariupol in February-March 2022, including footage of Russian shelling and bombing of a maternity hospital. Ukrainian viewers recognized it as the highest-grossing documentary film. The film was also longlisted for Best Foreign Language Film, along with films by other directors such as Hayao Miyazaki, Aki Kaurismäki, Jonathan Glazer and many others.
In the Best Documentary category, the film will compete with other works such as American Symphony, Deep Dive, Pigeon Tunnel and others. The longlist finalists will be announced on January 18, and the BAFTA awards ceremony will take place a month later.
