The final version of the new Ukrainian orthography may be published at the end of this year after further revision. Director of the Institute of the Ukrainian Language of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Doctor of Philology, Professor Pavlo Hrytsenko said in an interview that the institute is working on correcting spelling errors and preparing the text for publication.
"We understand the current situation and are working to eliminate spelling errors. We are preparing the text that should be there," said Hrytsenko.
In his words, "the spelling should be shortened, removing what concerns self-evident things that can be found in the dictionary. There is a spelling dictionary, which should be an appendix to the spelling, where complex forms will be given.".
Hrytsenko also noted that the revised spelling version will be submitted to the Language Standards Commission for approval. “Now neither the Cabinet of Ministers nor the Ministry of Education will be involved, and the National Academy of Sciences hat is no longer needed. Now this is the path and it must be implemented,” he added.
Regarding the completion of the spelling revision, Hrytsenko replied that “the issue is relevant, but we need to wait until the end of this year to publish the final version.”.
