Ruslan Shevchuk, the former head of the Main Department of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine in Vinnytsia region, has found himself at the center of a scandal over abuse of office. According to the State Bureau of Investigation, he systematically forced his subordinates to work for free at his private facilities.
This concerns the construction and repair of houses in Vinnytsia and Kharkiv regions. Rescue workers performed work both during working hours, when they were supposed to rescue people and respond to emergencies, and after their shift.
SBI investigators have identified at least four sites where the official used subordinates as free labor. The investigation is currently ongoing, with law enforcement officers checking the extent of the damage caused to the state and possible suspicions against the former head of the regional department of the State Emergency Service.
