NABU and SAPO have filed a case against a former prosecutor of the Prosecutor General's Office of Ukraine, who is currently working as an attorney, on charges of refusing to testify in criminal proceedings regarding the theft of gold confiscated during a pre-trial investigation.
The investigation found that a group of prosecutors from the Prosecutor General's Office took possession of the seized gold, which disappeared during the investigation. One of them is already accused of embezzlement, and now his former colleague is also under suspicion. He had information about the crime, but did not want to cooperate with the investigation - neither at the pre-trial stage nor in court.
On February 11, 2025, the ex-prosecutor was officially notified of suspicion under Part 1 of Article 385 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (refusal of a witness to give testimony). The case was transferred to court on the same day.
This case may be indicative: law enforcement officers demonstrate that silence in cases of top corruption will also have consequences.
