Ukrainian singer Eva Bushmina (real name Yana Shvets) returned to Kyiv and immediately found herself at the epicenter of a public language scandal: the artist posted a fragment of her new song in Russian, "Kill My Friend," on Instagram, after which hundreds of comments, mostly critical, began to appear under the post.
The announcement video, captioned in Russian, garnered about a thousand likes in a day, but also caused a wave of indignation: subscribers and casual viewers pointed out the inappropriateness of the choice of language and subject matter in the current social context. The comments included accusations of “detaching from reality,” suggestions that the content was “not for Ukraine,” as well as harsh personal remarks. Some users reminded of the emotional sensitivity of society and how the Russian language is perceived in the country’s media space today.
According to reports, some of the emotional comments were later deleted, but screenshots of the discussions remained online. A certain escalation also occurred in the singer's dialogue with her followers: in response to the question "What language does she sing in?" the artist, according to screenshots, responded rudely - the phrase was published with spelling errors and contained obscene language. This added fuel to the fire of the discussion even more.
Eva Bushmina is known to the Ukrainian public as a participant in the show "Star Factory" and as a member of the group "VIA Gra". Attempts to return to the big stage are accompanied by active promotion of new work - and at the same time dependence on the reaction of the audience. Some fans defend the artist, noting her vocal abilities and stage experience; critics emphasize that in the current conditions, artistic decisions must take into account the sensitivity of the audience.
For now, Bushmina continues to promote the release and indicates that the track is available on music platforms. The controversy in the comments continues: some users are asking for explanations from the artist herself regarding the choice of language and title, while others are urging not to draw attention to the song and to perceive it as an element of a creative experiment.
