German Foreign Minister Johann Wadeful stressed that future security guarantees for Ukraine after a peace agreement should be as close as possible to NATO standards, he said in an interview with DW.
According to him, it is impossible to demand territorial concessions from Kyiv if the country does not receive real guarantees that the rest of its territories will be protected.
" We cannot demand that Ukraine seriously think about territorial concessions if it does not receive at least real security guarantees from as many states as possible ," Vadeful emphasized.
The German diplomat is convinced that providing such guarantees is the key to putting pressure on Vladimir Putin and can become the basis for lasting peace. He emphasized that the idea is not directed against Russia, but is a guarantee of stability.
Separately, Vadful emphasized the need to involve a wider range of guarantor states. Among them are not only European countries, but also the United States and partners in Asia. About 30 states, including Japan, have already expressed their willingness to support Ukraine.
He also warned against the danger of a "dictatorial peace" imposed on Ukraine on the Kremlin's terms. In his opinion, security guarantees should be clearly stated: their violation would automatically mean an attack on Ukraine.
