Headaches and pressure: when to expect the peak of the magnetic storm this weekend

A powerful geomagnetic wave will cover Ukraine from June 14 to 15, 2025. According to the NOAA Space Weather Prediction Center (USA), increased solar activity is expected with a K-index of up to 6 — a red level of danger.

The upcoming weekend can be a real test for weather-dependent people, especially those with chronic or cardiovascular diseases.

Magnetic storm forecast:

  • June 14 (Saturday): K-index 5.7 — the storm is still powerful, can cause headaches, irritability, and pressure surges.

  • June 15 (Sunday): geomagnetic activity will decrease to a K-index of 4.7, but the situation will not become completely safe.

Scientists warn: the geomagnetic situation changes every hour. The data is updated every three hours, so it is important to follow official forecasts.

What is a magnetic storm and why is it dangerous?

A magnetic storm is a result of the impact of charged particles that enter the Earth's magnetosphere after solar flares. Its intensity is determined by the K-index:

  • 0–4 — safe level,

  • 5 and above - the beginning of a storm,

  • 7–8 — a very powerful storm that can cause auroras and serious disruptions to satellite systems.

How storms affect well-being

During magnetic storms, people may experience:

  • headache and migraine;

  • dizziness, drowsiness, weakness;

  • increased irritability, sleep disturbances;

  • blood pressure fluctuations.

The risk group includes the elderly, pregnant women, children, weather-dependent people, and those with heart problems, nervous system problems, or chronic diseases.

How to relieve the body's condition

Experts advise following simple rules:

  • Sleep at least 7–8 hours.

  • Drink more water, avoid coffee, alcohol, and fatty foods.

  • Drink herbal teas - lemon balm, mint, chamomile.

  • Avoid stress, noisy places, and conflicts.

  • Take a contrast shower in the morning and a warm bath in the evening.

  • Spend more time outdoors, but in the shade.

  • Do light physical exercises without overloading.

  • Always have the necessary medications on hand if you have chronic conditions.

Be attentive to your condition and plan quiet days if possible. During geomagnetic storms, the main thing is a regimen, water, silence, and self-care.
