In the Kyiv region, employees of the State Bureau of Investigation, together with the SBU, exposed the head of the canteen of a military unit, who, according to the investigation, organized the systematic theft of food intended for the food of servicemen. She involved the canteen instructor and the unit's driver in the scheme.
According to the State Bureau of Investigation, since January 2025, the suspects have purposefully not used some of the products during cooking, but instead accumulated them for further sale. The stolen goods were taken by a company car to pre-arranged points of sale. According to the investigation, only documented episodes of theft amount to more than 3 million UAH.
To have unlimited access to the warehouses and the ability to hide the shortage, the head of the cafeteria hired her own daughter, born in 2005. She entered false data into the accounting documents and helped mask the theft.
As a result of these actions, the quality of food for personnel in the military unit reportedly deteriorated significantly. Servicemen complained en masse about the rations, which negatively affected the morale of soldiers under martial law.
During the searches, SBI investigators seized over 600 kg of meat, 80 kg of fish, 60 kg of sausage, 110 kg of cheese, 12 kg of butter and other products with a total value of about UAH 160,000. Law enforcement officers detained the head of the cafeteria, an instructor and a driver at the scene.
All three were charged under Part 4 of Article 410 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – theft of military property committed by a group of persons in a prior conspiracy under martial law. The sanction of the article provides for 10 to 15 years of imprisonment.
The court chose a preventive measure for the suspects in the form of detention with the possibility of posting bail - almost 1 million UAH for each.
