Warming was short-lived: winter cold returns to Ukraine

In Ukraine, after a brief easing of the cold in the western and southern regions on January 15, it will become noticeably colder again the next day. On January 16, frosts will return, and winter weather will prevail across the country in general.

According to forecasters, no significant changes in the temperature background are expected: the cold will persist almost throughout the country. In the east, as well as in the Dnipropetrovsk and Zaporizhia regions, snow is forecast, light in places.

In Kyiv, it will be cloudy with clearings during the day. At night, the air temperature will drop to -19°, during the day the thermometer will show about -11°.

The frost will also persist in the western regions. In Lviv, temperatures are expected to drop to -5° at night and -3° during the day. In Lutsk, the temperature will range from -12° at night to -11° during the day. In Rivne, night frosts will reach -18°, during the day — about -11°. In Ternopil, -11° at night and up to -5° during the day are forecast, in Khmelnytskyi — -17° and -11°, respectively. In Ivano-Frankivsk, it will be -7° at night and -5° during the day, and in Uzhhorod — it will be warmest in the west: up to -4° at night and up to +2° during the day.

Cold weather without precipitation will persist in the central regions. In Vinnytsia, the temperature will be from -18° to -11°, in Zhytomyr - up to -21° at night and about -11° during the day. In Cherkasy and Kropyvnytskyi, about -16° at night is expected, and during the day - up to -9°. In Poltava - from -16° to -8°.

In the south of the country, the temperature will also remain below zero. In Odessa, it will be up to -12° at night, and about -5° during the day. In Kherson and Mykolaiv, -9°…-5° and -12°…-5° are forecast, respectively. In Zaporizhia, it will be cloudy, up to -9° at night, and about -5° during the day, light snow is possible.

Precipitation in the form of snow is expected in the east and northeast. In Sumy, the temperature will range from -18° at night to -8° during the day. In Kharkiv and Dnipro, it will be about -16° at night, up to -7° during the day, with light snow forecast in places. In Kramatorsk and Severodonetsk, the temperature will be from -10° at night to -7° during the day.

In Crimea, in particular in Simferopol, winter weather will also persist: cloudy, temperature from -9° at night to -2° during the day, light snow possible in places.

Forecasters are urging citizens to be aware of difficult weather conditions, especially drivers and pedestrians, as frost and snow can complicate the situation on the roads.
