This holiday is dedicated to the defenders who stand guard over the security of the state. October 5 is also celebrated in Ukraine as Teachers' Day, which coincides with World Teachers' Day. The holiday was initiated by UNESCO and the International Labor Organization in 1994. The purpose of this day is to honor the work of teachers who shape the future and to draw attention to the conditions of their work.

Day of the Holy Martyr Haritina

The Orthodox Church commemorates the memory of the holy martyr Charitina on this day. She was born around 287 in the Pontic region, remained an orphan, but was raised in a pious environment. During the persecution of Christians under the emperor Diocletian, Charitina did not renounce her faith, for which she suffered terrible torture and died. Her image became an example of unshakable faith and spiritual strength.
