On July 9, Ukraine will find itself in the center of extreme heat, becoming the hottest country in Europe. According to weather forecasters, the air temperature in some regions will reach +38…+40 degrees. At the same time, severe thunderstorms, squalls, and even hail are expected.
The highest temperatures are predicted in the southern and eastern regions, as well as in the center of the country. In Kyiv, temperatures are expected to reach +36…+37 degrees. The heat will be dry and stifling, which creates a significant burden on the cardiovascular system and the body in general.
However, the heat is not the only threat. Short-term but powerful thunderstorms are expected in the western and northern regions. In places, with wind gusts up to 20 m/s, squalls, local hail and downpours. This combination of heat and thunderstorm activity significantly increases the risks for the population.
Forecasters and the State Emergency Service warn of an increased likelihood of forest fires, as well as the risk of overheating, dehydration, and heatstroke. Doctors advise avoiding prolonged exposure to the sun, drinking plenty of water, wearing hats, and avoiding physical activity during the hottest hours of the day.
It is also worth remembering that sudden changes in weather — from heat to thunderstorms — can cause headaches, blood pressure spikes, and general malaise in weather-sensitive people.
