The Ivano-Frankivsk City Court found Mykhailo Boyko, a native of the Carpathian region, guilty of high treason, creating a terrorist group, and participating in illegal armed formations. The panel of judges, chaired by Roman Khorostil, sentenced him to 15 years in prison with confiscation of property.
Mykhailo Boyko was born in the village of Uzyn, Tysmenytskyi district, and worked in the criminal investigation department of the National Police in Ivano-Frankivsk and Donetsk regions. In 2015, he was mobilized into the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Later, he received a suspended sentence for deserting a military unit.
During the full-scale invasion, Boyko ended up in Mariupol, where he was captured by the Russians. In the colony in Olenivka, he voluntarily agreed to cooperate with the occupiers.
According to the investigation, since November 2022, Boyko fought as part of the so-called "Bohdan Khmelnytskyi Battalion." In October 2023, he joined the terrorist formation "Cascade", which operated in the Donetsk region, and swore an oath of allegiance to Russia.
In 2024, Boyko was the commander of the "Cascade" reconnaissance unit and fought near Urozhayny, Volnovakha district. He was also involved in recruiting new fighters.
The traitor repeatedly appeared in stories on Russian TV channels NTV and Rossiya-24, where he retold Kremlin narratives, called on Ukrainian military personnel to lay down their arms, and justified his own choice.
The court found him guilty under several articles of the Criminal Code:
-
Part 7 of Article 111-1 (treason under martial law),
-
Part 1 of Article 258-3 (creation of a terrorist group or organization),
-
Part 2 of Article 260 (creation of illegal armed formations).
Boyko was sentenced to 15 years in prison with confiscation of property and a ban on holding public office. The sentence will begin to run from the moment of his arrest. The sentence can be appealed.
