The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has confirmed information about an emergency situation at the South Ukraine Nuclear Power Plant (NPP), which has become the subject of disputes between Ukrainian energy organizations. According to the IAEA report, the plant has indeed encountered a problem that affected the operation of one of its units.
“Last week, the IAEA team at the South Ukraine NPP reported that its Unit 2 was temporarily shut down after electrical protections were triggered due to a problem with a transformer in a 330 kV outdoor switchgear located outside the NPP site.
"The short circuit damaged a ceramic insulator, causing a grease leak that ignited due to an electrical arc. After electrical communication was restored, the reactor was restarted and began supplying power to the grid in approximately 17 hours, reaching full power just over 24 hours after the shutdown," the international organization said in a report.
Let us remind you that after Energoatom's refutation, the NPP changed its CEO.
