In Kyiv, the installation of the main New Year tree of Ukraine will begin on Sofia Square on December 2. As reported by the Kyiv City Military Administration (KMVA) and the city hall, the ceremonial lighting of the tree will take place on December 6. The installation and decoration of the holiday tree will be carried out exclusively at the expense of patrons.
The Defense Council voted to install and decorate the Main New Year Tree on the territory of Sofia Square from December 2, 2024 to January 10, 2025. As in previous years, it will be installed exclusively at the expense of patrons without involving budget funds
As added by the city's mayor, Vitaliy Klitschko, the grand opening of the Christmas tree is planned for St. Nicholas Day, December 6.
A photo zone with QR codes of charitable foundations and several houses for the sale of souvenirs will be installed near the Christmas tree. No mass events, fairs or other entertainment are planned on Sofia Square, Klitschko added.
“This year, Christmas and New Year holidays in Kyiv will be held without mass gatherings and events, fairs and entertainment. In compliance with safety requirements and a regime of restrictions on the use of electricity,” Klitschko said.
We previously reported that the decision on installing the main Christmas tree in Kyiv will be made at the end of November. If approved, it will traditionally be located on Sophia Square.
