A court in Cherkasy region has sentenced a man who, while drinking alcohol, killed his roommate by stabbing her in the neck. The woman died on the spot.
The crime occurred during a long feast. In court, the accused said that he and the woman had been drinking for several days in a row. On the day of the tragedy, the couple had breakfast and drank alcohol again. According to the man, at some point the woman allegedly wanted to hit him with a bottle, and he “automatically” took a kitchen knife and hit her in the neck. At the same time, he claimed that he had no intention of causing harm and “was not aiming.”.
The man assured that he treated the victim with respect and did not understand how he allowed her death.
The court found the man guilty under Part 1 of Article 115 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (intentional murder) and sentenced him to 7 years in prison. He must also pay UAH 12,734 for forensic examinations.
The verdict has not yet entered into legal force and can be appealed.
