The Koropsky District Court of Chernihiv Oblast has sentenced a 46-year-old man who systematically abused his cohabitant's children, the regional prosecutor's office reported.
According to the investigation, in August 2023, the man decided to punish the children - an 11-year-old girl and a 12-year-old boy - for picking peaches without their neighbor's permission. While intoxicated, he inflicted numerous blows on the children over five days with improvised means: metal and wooden sticks, an axe, and a knife.
As a result of the torture, the children suffered multiple fractures of their upper limbs, a closed head injury, and a significant number of abrasions and hematomas all over their bodies. In addition, the man caused minor injuries to his roommate, who was trying to protect the children.
Despite the fact that the accused did not admit his guilt, the court took into account the evidence of the prosecutor's office and sentenced him to 6 years in prison. The man will be in custody until the verdict becomes final.
