The recent statement by Lviv Mayor Andriy Sadovy that some nationalist movements in Ukraine may receive funding from Russia in order to destabilize the country provoked a powerful conflict with representatives of nationalist organizations, in particular with the Right Sector. The mayor's comment caused a wide public resonance and prompted numerous discussions among activists, politicians, and citizens alike.
This is how he commented on the topic of creating "language patrols" and, in general, a new round of strengthening language policy in the country.
"This topic has always been exploited by pro-Russian forces or those who received funding from the aggressor country. They will pour billions into destabilizing the situation in Ukraine. Because they have already realized that they will not be able to capture us as they planned, so they will pour funds into supporting various nationalist, radical movements, will support military-style organizations from their perspective, and will spend billions on propaganda. You need to be ready for this, you need to understand this," Sadovyi said.
Later, a video dated October 31 appeared on social media. In it, the head of the Lviv regional headquarters of the Right Sector, Ivan Smaga, stated before entering the Lviv City Hall that "only nationalists will rule" in Ukraine.
And, in fact, he threatened Sadovy with death.
"Disrespectful Andriy Sadovy, my brothers told me not to raise this issue. God forbid, if it is said again that, perhaps, nationalist movements or a la military structures will be financed from Moscow's pocket, this will be the last thing you say in your life. I do not speak for everyone, I speak for myself," Smaga said.
