MP from the Servant of the People party, Mariana Bezugla, stated that the Russian ballistic missile strike on Sumy on April 13 could have occurred due to the public assembling of military personnel for an award ceremony. She wrote about this on her Telegram channel, addressing the command of the Territorial Defense Forces and the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
“Russia shelled the center of Sumy on Palm Sunday. An appeal to Syrsky and separately to the commander of the Territorial Defense: do not gather the military for awards, especially in civilian cities,” Bezugla wrote.
According to the deputy, such accumulations of troops in open areas within the enemy's reach are a critical mistake. She also believes that the Russian side could have received information about the place and time of the incident, which led to a precise strike.
“DO NOT BE WRONG, DO NOT MAKE 'AWARDS and CONSTRUCTIONS'! May your shovel be cursed and you with it!” the deputy emotionally declared.
Separately, she appealed to the SBU with a remark about a possible leak of information, which allowed the enemy to hit the target with great accuracy. Bezugla also recalled a similar tragedy that occurred in November 2023 with the soldiers of the 128th brigade, when dozens of soldiers died during the award ceremony. According to her, no one has been punished yet.
“Because Brigadier General Lysyuk is General Zubanych's best man…” she added.
Concluding the post, the deputy asked President Volodymyr Zelensky whether he considered such impunity of the military leadership acceptable.
“Mr. President, is this OK with you? Keep quiet and keep your mouth shut??? They don’t draw conclusions!”
Bezuglaya's statement has already caused a wide resonance on social networks, where opinions are divided: some support her demand that the command not expose the fighters to danger, while others criticize her for emotionality and accusations during active combat operations.
