Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy Yulia Svyrydenko have expressed serious complaints about the work of the Ministry of Veterans Affairs, according to sources familiar with the course of one of the government meetings.
According to the interlocutors, the tense situation arose during a working meeting with government officials, which took place a few days ago.
During a discussion of veterans' policy, the president asked the Minister of Veterans' Affairs, Natalia Kalmykova, a direct question: how many veterans are currently in Ukraine?.
According to sources, the minister was unable to give a specific figure and explained that accurate data will appear after the creation of digital accounting tools.
In response, the president, according to interlocutors, noted that an approximate figure can be determined from state registers and the volume of payments.
" Can you just open the register, see how much the state is making payments, and give me at least some figure ?" - sources report the president's words.
According to the interlocutors, after this conversation, the minister became noticeably agitated.
At the same time, government sources note that the issue of registering veterans and forming a unified registry remains one of the key challenges for state veterans policy.
Experts emphasize that after the start of a full-scale war, the number of veterans in Ukraine is rapidly growing, and an effective system of accounting and supporting this category of citizens is becoming one of the important tasks for the state.
