Under the procedural guidance of prosecutors of the Prosecutor General's Office, facts of embezzlement of budget funds during state procurement for the needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine have been established. This was reported by the publication "Law and Business" with reference to the UGP.
The investigation found that in December 2024, the director of a private company supplied the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine with 18,000 protective ballistic goggles-masks.
The first samples passed laboratory tests with negative results. However, the Ministry of Defense officials did not initiate repeated tests in certified laboratories. Instead, the supplier provided positive protocols from another organization, after which the head of the specialized unit of the Ministry of Defense approved the batch as high-quality.
In the end, the glasses were handed over to the military unit, and the supplier company received budget funds.
According to the investigation, the state suffered losses in the amount of more than 25.7 million UAH.
The actions of the suspects were qualified under Part 5 of Article 191 (embezzlement or embezzlement of property in especially large amounts) and Part 4 of Article 425 (negligent attitude to military service, which caused grave consequences) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. One of the suspects was detained, the issue of a preventive measure is being resolved.
The involvement of other officials of the Ministry of Defense is being investigated.
