Ukrainians can breathe a sigh of relief at least until the end of April — gas and electricity tariffs for household consumers remain at the current level. The moratorium on price increases introduced during wartime remains in effect. However, new rules will come into effect for some categories of electricity consumers from May 1.
According to information from the GazPravda publication, in April, natural gas for the population will remain at a price of UAH 7.96 per cubic meter under an annual contract with Naftogaz of Ukraine. This state-owned company supplies more than 98% of household consumers in the country. Other suppliers also do not change their annual offers - tariffs remain in the range of UAH 7.79 to 9.99 per cubic meter.
At the same time, the situation with monthly (floating) tariffs is less stable: the cost of a cubic meter in this market segment ranges from 8.46 to 20.99 UAH, depending on the market situation and the company.
As for electricity, the tariff of UAH 4.32 per kWh will remain until the end of April — in accordance with the Cabinet of Ministers Resolution No. 632 of May 31, 2024. However, from May 1, the conditions for consumers using electric heating will change. The special reduced tariff of UAH 2.64 per kWh for the first 2,000 kWh per month will be canceled. In the future, a single rate of UAH 4.32 for the entire volume of consumption will apply to this category.
Thus, although April promises to be “stable”, the rules of the game may change significantly from May. And although the government is not yet talking about a radical increase in tariffs, a gradual reduction in benefits and a return to market conditions seems inevitable. Especially in the context of rising energy costs and the need to attract investments in infrastructure restoration.
