A scandal in the Ukrainian law enforcement community is unfolding around three former detectives of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU), who, after years of investigating corruption schemes at Ukrzaliznytsia, have taken up employment at this state-owned company. Even more outrageous is the fact that one of them received shares in companies that NABU was investigating.
This is reported by “Ukrainian News”, citing lawyer Bohdan Ustymenko.
Taras Likunov, Bohdan Brovko, and Oleksandr Rykovtsev have worked at NABU since 2015, practically since its founding. They rose to the positions of head of the detective department, deputy head, and senior detective.
They resigned one after another over the past 9 months and soon signed employment contracts with UZ. Sometimes with a difference of just a few days, although the law prohibits this within a year.
At the same time, as the lawyer claims, Likunov personally helped former UZ Deputy Director for Security Oleksandr Shevchenko to be served with suspicion by his fellow detectives. Shevchenko was fired, after which Likunov took over his position.
In addition, Rykovtsev's declaration included cryptocurrency worth about $870,000 and real estate. And his father-in-law was appointed to a management position in the Odessa branch of Ukrzaliznytsia.
And Likunov acquired ownership of shares in the largest companies, such as Ferrexpo and Myronivskyi Hliboproduct (MHP), against which the NABU also investigated criminal cases.
