The fighters of the Armed Forces of Ukraine did not leave the city of Vugledar in the Donetsk region much earlier in order to avoid losses of other territories. This was stated by the new commander of the 72nd separate mechanized brigade named after the "Black Zaporozhians", Colonel Oleksandr Okhrimenko, in an interview with "Glavkom".
“If we leave the settlements without giving the enemy a powerful fight, then in a while we may find ourselves at unknown borders,” the officer emphasized.
After being appointed to the position of brigade commander, Okhrimenko developed a plan for the phased withdrawal of units from the southern part of Vugledar, which was approved by the top leadership. However, according to him, not everything went according to plan, as Russian troops managed to take control of the flanks. “The first stage of the withdrawal from the city was completed, but the enemy increased its efforts and took control of the routes that we had planned,” he explained.
Okhrimenko noted that the Ukrainian military managed to stop the enemy, stabilizing the front line. “This morning (October 7), the enemy carried out assault actions from the eastern direction, we stopped them. Several combat vehicles were destroyed, the enemy suffered losses in personnel and has now abandoned further offensive actions,” the brigadier general added.
At the moment, the Armed Forces of Ukraine continue to work to prevent the enemy from advancing towards Bogoyavlenka, demonstrating resilience and readiness to repel attacks.
