On July 19, Mykolaiv was again targeted by Russian attacks. The city's mayor, Oleksandr Sienkevych, confirmed the deaths of four people, including a 13-year-old boy.
The attack took place at around 5:00 p.m. in a residential area of Mykolaiv. According to Senkevych, the strike was carried out by an air-launched rocket that hit a children's playground. According to reports, four people were killed, including a child. Another 24 people were injured, four of whom were children.
The mayor of Mykolaiv reported that the number of injured has increased after the attack, and two adults and two children are in the hospital. Updated data from the State Emergency Service confirmed that three people died, one of them a child. Eight apartment buildings were damaged, as well as a kindergarten building.
Among the dead is 13-year-old Kyrylo Dyadyushka, a dancer with the folk dance ensemble SOUVENIR. Colleagues and classmates remember him as a talented and creative boy. Teachers from Mykolaiv Gymnasium No. 10, where Kyrylo studied, expressed their deep condolences and described him as a bright and creatively gifted person whose death was a great loss.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs confirmed that the rocket hit a playground, which further exacerbated the pain of the tragedy. Kyrylo's mother is in a state of shock and is receiving psychological assistance from the State Emergency Service.
The attack was the latest example of the indiscriminate violence that Russian forces continue to commit against civilians in Ukraine. Immediately after the attack, city services and medical workers mobilized to provide assistance to the victims and deal with the aftermath of the explosion.
