Law enforcement officers have detained Colonel Petro Tkachuk, deputy rector of the Bohdan Khmelnytsky National Academy of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine. They suspect that the official decided to build a private house for himself without spending a single penny of his own money on it — all at the expense of the state.
According to preliminary data, Tkachuk, using his official position, involved military personnel and academy employees in the construction. This already amounts to abuse of power, but the main thing is what exactly was found on the territory of the "construction site.".
During the searches, property with academy inventory numbers was discovered: beds, air conditioners, heaters, souvenirs — everything that should be on the balance sheet of a state university, not in private property.
In addition, building materials were found at the site — tiles, laminate, and other materials purchased with state budget funds. That is, instead of training future border guards and properly maintaining the infrastructure of the educational institution, state property and resources were used to build the colonel's private residence.
This case is yet another proof of how deeply corruption penetrates even into military educational institutions. Whether Tkachuk will be punished for the brazen misappropriation of resources during the war is now up to law enforcement and the court.
