A group of individuals involved in illegal logging was exposed in the Zhytomyr region. According to the prosecutor's office, three residents of one of the communities in the Zhytomyr district acted systematically, entering forest areas almost every night.
The investigation found that the attackers had selected trees to cut down in advance and then returned to cut them down and remove them. In just one night before their arrest, they had illegally destroyed 41 trees.
The men converted two off-road vehicles into closed timber trucks to transport the wood. During the searches, the equipment and the crime weapon were seized.
Law enforcement officers detained loggers during another shipment of illegally harvested timber. All episodes of their activities are currently being established and the damage caused to the state is being assessed.
All three suspects have already been informed of the suspicion.
