The Minister of Economy of Ukraine, Oleksiy Sobolev, became the only government representative who declared receiving funds under the state program "national cashback" for 2024. The relevant data is contained in his annual declaration.
According to the published information, the minister himself received almost 3.5 thousand hryvnias in cashback. His wife declared another 4 thousand hryvnias under the same program.
At the same time, the bulk of the official's income comes from salaries from various sources. In particular, Sobolev earned about 1.7 million hryvnias from his government position. He received another 1.8 million hryvnias from the Kyiv School of Economics, which is headed by former Economy Minister Tymofiy Mylovanov.
In addition, the declaration indicates additional income: about 29 thousand hryvnias from bank payments and over 15 thousand hryvnias in salary from the public organization "Laboratory of Public Initiatives".
Thus, the minister's total income for the year exceeded 3.5 million hryvnias. Against this background, the amounts received under the "national cashback" program look insignificant, but the very fact of their declaration attracted attention, since this is a rare case among government officials.
The state cashback program provides for the return of a portion of the funds spent on certain categories of purchases. It was launched as a tool to stimulate the economy and support consumer demand.
The story of Sobolev's declaration once again raised the issue of officials' participation in state support programs designed for broader segments of the population.
