In early 2024, a group of raiders attempted to involve a high-ranking SBU official in a scheme to raid a mining company in Vinnytsia. In response to an offer of a bribe of $1 million, the colonel immediately reported the attempted bribery to his superiors. All participants in the criminal scheme were detained.
After his arrest, the leader of the raiding group was in a pre-trial detention center, where he decided to eliminate an important witness to avoid punishment. He contacted other detainees who had connections to people at large and offered $50,000 for the murder of the witness. The organizer provided detailed information about the victim, including her address and travel routes.
SBU officers promptly discovered the criminal's plans, documenting the preparation for the murder. The security service successfully stopped the crime at the preparation stage and informed the organizer of a new suspicion under the articles of the Criminal Code that provide for punishment for preparation for a contract killing.
Previously, the raider's activities were classified under the article on offering illegal benefits, but now he faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property. The SBU continues the investigation into the case in order to punish the organizers and participants of this criminal scheme as effectively as possible.
