The Main Department of the Pension Fund of Ukraine in the Volyn region addressed citizens with an important reminder: in the event of a change in life circumstances, pensioners must promptly notify the PFU, otherwise overpayments may occur that will have to be returned.
The fund emphasizes: the size of the pension directly depends on many factors. If you do not report a change in circumstances in a timely manner, the system may automatically calculate an excess amount, and such overpayments are subject to return - both voluntarily and by court decision.
Circumstances that affect retirement include:
-
Employment of a pensioner or termination of employment/entrepreneurial activity. Many additional payments and allowances are provided only for non-working pensioners.
-
The retirement pension ceases upon return to work in the relevant specialty.
-
Change of residence, which may deprive a pensioner of allowances for work in special conditions.
-
Change of status – for example, loss of war veteran status or other preferential status.
-
Changes affecting the payment of specific types of pensions – for example, the termination of education of a child receiving a survivor's pension.
You can notify the Pension Fund about such changes in person at the service center or remotely via your electronic account on the PFU portal.
The fund also noted that overpayment may also occur due to unreliable data provided by the employer, in particular regarding the employee's earnings or length of service.
In cases of intentional concealment of information or fraud, funds may be recovered forcibly. The law allows the PFU to demand the return of overpaid amounts through administrative procedures or in court.
Experts advise pensioners to closely monitor changes in their status and inform the Pension Fund in a timely manner to avoid unnecessary debts to the state.
