Some American officials have expressed concern about the mobilization age in Ukraine, calling for it to be lowered. As Yaroslav Kostenko, a member of parliament from the Holos party, notes, he regularly receives letters from congressmen asking: “We provide you with weapons, but why don’t you have people? How is it that people under 25 aren’t drafted?” Kostenko admits that it’s difficult for him to answer these questions, as the mobilization situation remains complicated.
Discussions about a possible lowering of the mobilization age are ongoing, but they are being conducted behind closed doors. There have been no official statements on this issue at the committee yet. However, Kostenko emphasized his support for the idea of lowering the mobilization age to 20 years. “Mobilization should begin at 20 years old. We have educated those who do not want to go defend their country,” the people’s deputy noted.
Kostenko also regularly raises the topic of lowering the mobilization age, emphasizing that this issue will become especially relevant if a new wave of mobilization is announced in Russia. According to him, Ukraine needs to take into account the requirements of the time and adapt its defense strategies in accordance with new realities.
