The Pokrovska mine remains one of the key industrial and strategic facilities in the area of active fighting in the Donetsk region. According to the "Gostry Kartuzy" unit of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the mine territory has now suffered significant damage, and part of the facilities are under the control of the Russian occupiers.
The enterprise is located on a direction that is critical for the defense of Pokrovsk. It is through this section that the enemy is trying to expand its bridgehead and increase pressure on the left flank of the city.
In December 2024, the Pokrovskaya administration announced a partial suspension of operations due to the approach of the front line. Production was completely halted in January 2025. In March, Russian shelling destroyed the main shaft and the mine management hoist, making the restoration of the facility impossible.
The two main mine complexes are now completely destroyed. One of them is occupied, the other remains under the control of Ukrainian defenders, but is under attack daily.
After 2014, the Pokrovska mine was the only operating enterprise in Ukrainian-controlled territory that produced coking coal, a strategic raw material for metallurgy. Its destruction poses serious risks to Ukraine's industry and energy stability.
The scale of the losses and the future fate of the enterprise are currently unknown, but the soldiers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine emphasize that the defense of this direction is a matter not only of military strategy, but also of the economic security of the state.
