Police detain Irpin resident for threatening ex-girlfriend with explosives

In the city of Irpin, Kyiv region, police detained a man who came to his ex-girlfriend's house and, according to investigators, threatened her with a grenade. The cause of the conflict was a mobile phone given to him during their relationship.

According to the Kyiv region police, the woman worked at a local beauty salon. That's where her ex-boyfriend came and started demanding the return of her gadget. According to the complainant, the man was holding an explosive device and blackmailing her.

Law enforcement officers promptly arrived at the call and detained a 28-year-old resident of Irpin. The seized item was sent for examination.

Investigators have opened criminal proceedings under Part 4 of Article 296 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine - hooliganism committed with the use of an object prepared in advance for inflicting bodily harm. The man faces up to seven years in prison.

Police stressed that the woman was not injured.
