The President of Ukraine refuses to appeal to the Constitutional Court to confirm his legitimacy

The President of Ukraine and his office have announced that they will not appeal to the Constitutional Court to confirm the legitimacy of the presidential rule. In an interview with Babel, the legal advisor to the head of the President's Office, Iryna Mudra, noted that the initiative to appeal to the court has a Russian narrative, which was expressed during a meeting of the UN Security Council by the representative of Russia, Vasyl Nebenzeyu.

Mudra noted that the Russian representative emphasized the need for the Ukrainian authorities to go to court to confirm the legitimacy of President Zelensky, but the Ukrainian authorities do not intend to do this due to the danger to Russian interests.

In addition, Mudra spoke about the political consultations that took place in November 2023 within the framework of the Jean Monnet Dialogue. During these consultations, it was agreed that elections in Ukraine would be held after the end of the war, and that the parliament would develop a special law on their holding. This approach, according to Mudra, takes into account the norms of the Constitution and previous agreements between parliamentary factions, and therefore the president has no reason to appeal to the Constitutional Court.
